Questions Answered For First Time Bloggers

I would not by any means call myself an expert in blogging. I do not live off of the earnings I make from selling, buying and maintaining websites (yet). Putting this aside, I do feel over the years I have gained quite a lot of experience with starting up blogs and overcoming difficult obstacles. For this reason, there are a lot of you that email me questions and message me about certain questions involving being a new blogger. Unfortunately, I never have the time to answer all the questions which is one of the main reasons for creating this article. From scanning through some of the questions, here are your main questions answered from my perspective and experience.

Blogger vs WordPress?

The main question I get involves what platform to use for blogging – Google’s Blogger or WordPress. I have done articles for both platforms highlighting the pros and cons to Blogger and WordPress. For a new blogger, choosing which platform to use depends on what goals you have set yourself in blogging.

  • If you want an easy to use interface, want to learn about blogging slowly and steadily and have a small budget, I would say to go for Blogger.
  • If you want to make a business out of buying and selling websites, have a bigger budget and like to learn about the ‘complex stuff’ of blogging, you may want to try WordPress.

If you are still unsure, I would give each one a go for a week and see which you prefer. In general, it is far better to go for WordPress as that does seem the market norm. However, this does no mean one bit that a website with Blogger cannot succeed.

What is the Routine of a Blogger?

It depends on what you are blogging and your overall objectives.

For example, if you really want to become a full time blogger, get into the habit of publishing articles at least once a day – spend a few hours a day with your blog so that it expands almost exponentially online. If you want to take it slow and steady, 2-3 hours a week can still do you a lot of good for yourself when it comes to learning about blogging and your blog itself.

When I first got into blogging, I was fortunate to have lots of time to experiment. However, what became apparent quite quickly was the fact that my time was not spent efficiently and was wasted looking at irrelevant areas of the blog (such as tiny weeny tweaks to my design). If you are going to procrastinate in blogging, make sure you are doing it with something worthwhile at the minimum!

What do you use to Make Money?

I’ll be honest that I have used tens of nearly hundreds of monetization programs on my blogs. What has always come out top is Google Adsense.

This does not mean it is the best for you. But, based on my experience with the program, I have learnt quite well how to make the most out of it for my blog and optimise it to make the most amount of money from my traffic. So, if you are going to use Adsense, start reading articles and learning how to optimise the program for your blog.
