Sony Xperia Z5 First Smartphone With 4K Screen

It has been an exciting week for the smartphone market as Sony have just released their flagship phone for 2015 (and probably a good half of 2016 too). The Sony Xperia Z5 is an exciting phone to say the least with many features that I will go into in this article. However, with so much competition in this market, is the Sony Xperia Z5 going to take the market by storm and become the market leader, outdoing the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge? Let’s find out.

The first and probably most important spec to be mentioned is the fact that Sony’s new smartphone is the first smartphone ever to feature a 4K resolution screen. Now, let’s put this into perspective. TVs have only started to get 4K resolution screens in the past few years and now we have our first 4K screen in a screen under 6″ diagonally! Is it me being old or technology is evolving way too fast right now…

As well as this, the Sony Xperia Z5 has the following specifications:

  • 23 mega pixel camera with Hybrid Autofocus (0.03 sec) – From this, it is already clear that the Z5 is going to have an awesome camera. Over the past years, Sony has never let us down with having the best cameras on smartphones and the Z5 will not disappoint either. As well as this, the camera can record in 4K resolution to take full advantage of this amazing screen.
  • IP 68 waterproof and dust tight – The IP 68 rating will help those that are a bit more careless with their phones such as those who tend to drop them in the bath, by a swimming pool or just generally not good with looking after phones! It is always a nice feeling to have a phone that, if I was clumsy and dropped it under water, will be completely fine and still work after (although, of course, Sony does not recommend this)!
  • Up to 2 days battery life – This is the real specification more and more people are caring about. If Sony lives up to expectations and achieves a phone with 4K resolution and 2 days battery life, it will storm the market completely. However, like me, there are many people that are not totally convinced of this battery life claim as it simply seems too good to be true.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor – To make sure the 4K screen works smoothly with the operating system of Android, Sony is using the latest snapdragon processor which, for a flagship phone, is a must. So, this is no surprise.

Ultimately, I think if the specifications of this phone are true, it will take the market by an absolute storm. However, I am struggling to see a phone that is so slim gain such a good battery life even though the pixel density has basically doubled. As well as this, what is the price going to be like? I can already see it being one of, if not the, most expensive phone out there – this, of course, will put many people off buying it with the likes of the Moto G, LG and Samsung phones being potentially much cheaper.
