Mozilla will launch Firefox 105.0.2 Stable today to address five different problems in the browser, including a potential browser deadlock.

If you are reading this on October 4, 2022, Firefox 105.0.2 might not have been released yet. The update is expected to be available later today.

Firefox has an automatic update feature to download and install updates without user input, although it does not happen instantly. Users can manually check for updates to install them sooner.

To check for updates, go to Menu > Help > About Firefox. A small window will open, displaying information about the current version and checking for updates to download and install the latest one.

Firefox 105.0.2: What’s New

Firefox 105.0.2 includes one major fix and four minor fixes. The main fix addresses issues with loading certain sites in Safe Mode. Users can enable Troubleshoot Mode by going to Menu > Help > Troubleshoot Mode to run the browser without extensions, themes, or custom settings.

Troubleshoot Mode helps identify browser issues and requires a restart to become active.

According to a Bugzilla report, some sites may fail to load permanently in Troubleshoot Mode due to font configuration and site content, mainly affecting Firefox instances with shared font lists disabled.

To fix this, users can set gfx.e10s.font-list.shared to false in the advanced configuration to disable the shared font list.

Two of the fixed bugs relate to styling problems. One addresses sidebar styling issues with certain add-ons in Private Browsing Mode, while the other resolves dynamic appearance change issues.

  • Fixed a bug causing unexpected dynamic appearance changes
  • Fixed a bug where theme styling wasn’t correctly applied to sidebars in some add-ons in Private Browsing Mode

The fourth bug fix solves a poor contrast issue on Linux systems where some menu items had low contrast with certain themes. The final fix addresses scrollbar appearance issues on right-to-left locales.

The official release notes will be updated later today (for readers on October 4, 2022).

Firefox 105.0.2 is the second minor update to Firefox 105. The previous update restored the browser’s original focus behavior that was changed in the Firefox 105 release.
