Microsoft Issues May 2024 Security Updates for Windows

Microsoft has recently released security updates for all current versions of its Windows operating system and other products.

These updates provide system administrators and users with information on the patches and changes released. They include details for each supported Windows version, known issues, and guidance on obtaining and installing the updates.

Overview of Microsoft Windows Security Updates for May 2024

Microsoft has issued security patches for 60 different vulnerabilities.

  • No critical security issues were identified.
  • Windows client issues include: Windows 10 versions 21H2 and 22H2, Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2.
  • Windows Server client issues include: Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2022.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 (extended support only): 22 vulnerabilities: 0 critical, 21 important, and 1 moderate
  • Windows Server 2012 R2 (extended support only): vulnerabilities: critical and important
  • Windows Server 2016: 29 vulnerabilities: 0 critical, 28 important, and 1 moderate
  • Windows Server 2019: 44 vulnerabilities: 0 critical, 43 important, and 1 moderate
  • Windows Server 2022: 45 vulnerabilities: 0 critical, 44 important, and 1 moderate

Windows Security Updates

Windows 10 version 22H2
Here are some updates and improvements:

  • Implemented Microsoft account-related notifications in Settings > Home.
  • Improved reliability and quality of lock screen widgets.
  • Enhanced Windows Search reliability.
  • Reduced update size by about 20% through a new technique.
  • Resolved Virtual Secure Mode (VSM) scenarios issue.
  • Fixed a stability issue affecting certain wireless earbuds.
  • Security updates.
  • Integrated all changes from the April 24 Preview update.

Windows 11 version 22H2 and 23H2

Updates and improvements include:

  • Added application promotions to the Recommended section of the start menu.
  • Fixed a slow file transfer issue affecting Server Message Block (SMB) clients.
  • Enhanced quality of the widgets icon on the taskbar.
  • Improved reliability of lock screen widgets.
  • Resolved an issue impacting Virtual Secure Mode (VSM) scenarios.

Microsoft Releases May 2024 Security Updates for Windows

Windows users now have the option to download and install the latest security updates for May 2024 released by Microsoft. Here are the updates available:

Known Issues

Windows 10 version 22H2

Description: Users may have issues changing their account profile picture after installing the update.

Workaround: Currently, there is no workaround for this issue.

Description: Devices using Microsoft Connected Cache (MCC) may download updates or apps from the wrong source under certain conditions.

Workaround: Users should adjust the Microsoft Connected Cache endpoint in the DOCacheHost policy as per recommendations.

(OLD) Description: Copilot on multiple monitors may cause desktop icons to shift unexpectedly.

Workaround: There’s currently no specific solution, and Microsoft may consider disabling Copilot on multi-monitor setups.

(OLD) Description: Copilot in Windows does not support vertical taskbar placement.

Workaround: Align the taskbar horizontally at the top or bottom of the screen.

Windows 11 version 22H2 and 23H2

Description: Users may face difficulties changing their account profile picture after installing the update.

Workaround: Currently, there is no solution available for this issue.
