Windows 98 – Not booting after format

Name: Harold Hawkins

I reformated my windows 98 and now am getting message invalid system disk replace the disk and then press any key So is there any way to get back into windows without taking it to the shop hope you might be able to help me out.  THANK YOU.

The most common reason for the Invalid System Disk error is that there is actually a disk in your floppy drive. If you used a floppy to load drivers for something or whatnot, you may have left the disk in the drive. If that’s the case, remove it, and see if that solves your problem.

However, if I am to take your e-mail literally, and all you’ve done is reformat your drive, then you won’t be able to boot because there’s now nothing on your hard drive. You must format and also reinstall Windows 98 for it to work. Following the reinstall, you’ll likely need to install drivers for a number of items. (Your video card, sound card, modem, etc)

The Win98 CD is bootable, so if you’ve not done the reinstall then slap the CD in and boot from that. Then you’ll need to go through the install process.
