Despite the passing of the Digital Markets Act compliance deadline in March 2024, attempts to uninstall Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices have proven unsuccessful as of April 2024. Even with the latest updates, the option to uninstall Microsoft Edge remains disabled.
Microsoft has stated that users in the European Economic Area (EEA) should have the capability to uninstall Microsoft Edge. However, users in countries like Germany have experienced issues where the uninstall feature is unavailable, even after ensuring all Windows updates are applied.
Microsoft had initially mentioned that changes allowing Edge removal for EEA users would be implemented by early April. Despite this, some users still find the uninstallation function inaccessible, possibly due to an incomplete rollout or server-side restrictions.
Although Microsoft has acknowledged the problem, they have yet to offer a clear resolution. Meanwhile, users can potentially use specific PowerShell commands to remove Microsoft Edge if they are set on doing so.
Microsoft has assured users that Edge can be uninstalled just like any other regular application on the system, implying that the uninstall option should indeed be accessible.
