Trying to remove Spyware – Safe mode cannot be accessed!

Name: Ryan

When i try to access safe mode in attempting to remove spyware, it does not work; as in, it wont load the safe mode.

Is there something i need to do to allow it to work?

Getting into Safe Mode is pretty straightforward. You simply reboot the computer, and press F8 a whole bunch of times until a menu appears that will have Safe Mode as an option within it. (If you get to the Windows splash screen without seeing the menu, then you’ve booted too far and the computer will have to be restarted)

Now, keep in mind that Safe Mode can actually take a while to load for some reason, and that the long trailing list of things being executed is normal. Safe mode doesn’t show the normal splash screen while booting; it gives you a command-line view of the modules being loaded.

If you’ve taken all that into account, and it does hang permanently while booting into SM, then I’d suggest trying Barts PE to look at your computer. A Barts disk will boot independently of your computer’s OS and so regardless of what’s up with your current Windows install it’ll still boot.

You can then scan the hard drive without worrying about files being in use. This is actually why I almost exclusively use it in the fight with Malware. Some even manages to load in Safe Mode nowadays. (Any file actively in use by the OS cannot be deleted/cleaned)
