Tesla Model 3 Info, Specs and More

The Tesla Model 3 was merely unveiled to the public nearly a year ago and already, there are preorders providing revenue to Tesla of around $10 billion. This type of attention has not gone unnoticed which is generally why many OEMs in the automotive industry are now looking to pounce on this emerging market with electric cars.
But, there have been electric cars in the past, such as the Nissan Leaf. So what makes the Tesla Model 3 so exciting? To help you decide whether to be excited by Tesla’s next generation of car, here are the main bits of information and specs you need to know about the Tesla Model 3.

  1. Every Tesla comes equipped with self driving hardware – Strictly speaking, every Tesla sold from now on comes with this hardware. However, self driving software is not completely ready yet to go mainstream. For this reason, Tesla are ‘future proofing’ there cars so that when the software is ready for cars to drive themselves, it can be as simple to implement onto the Tesla Model 3, X and S as with a software update. This does mean the Tesla Model 3 will, at some point, will have the capability to self drive.
  2. minimum range of 215 miles – This is likely to be the lowest model with the lowest range of 215 miles. However, we expect, just like with Tesla’s other cars, there will be different variations of the Model 3 with different size batteries and motors. Therefore, we can expect the range to be between 200-350/400 miles, considering the fact the batteries that will be used on the Model 3 are the newer third generation of battery technology from Tesla, that is currently in the Model S P100D.
  3. 3-6 hours charging time – This, of course, will depend on the power of the charger you are using. However, the times to charge will be similar to the Model S and X.
  4. Start at $35,000 – Considered the most exciting fact about the Model 3, it is an electric car that is intended to hit the mass market with a low price to compete against Audi, BMW, Ford and more. The baseline model will start at $35,000 and increase as the battery size increases, the motors become more powerful and more extras are added onto the car.
  5. 0-60mph in less than 6 seconds – Unlike the Nissan Leaf, the Model 3 is going to maintain the brand image of Tesla making fast electric cars. The lowest spec model will be able to accelerate from 0-60mph in less than 6 seconds (similar to the lowest model of the Model S which does this in 5.5 seconds). We also expect there to be more powerful motors with the ludicrous mode, delivering 0-60 mph times well under 3 seconds.
  6. One central screen – Instead of having two separate screens (one where the driver dials are and one in the middle for the infotainment system is), Tesla are going to combine them into one widescreen centrally located in the Model 3, providing a very minimalistic feeling to the interior.
  7. Delivers start in early 2018 – Although you can order a Tesla Model 3 now, do not expect it to be with you anytime soon. Delivers are expected to happen at the start of 2018, although this could easily be delayed like it was for other Tesla cars.
