Sony Vaio RX 400 USB, mouse and keyboard ports broken

Name: kes

I have a Sony Vaio rx 400 and my usb ports don’t work. All 3 of them as well as my keyboard and mouse ports. How do I do about replacing them, and is it expensive?

Assuming that the computer still even boots (it sounds like something horrendous happened to your machine) then the easiest fix for the USB ports would be to get a PCI card with the USB ports on them. This is assuming that the RX-400 is a desktop. (I searched for it and found the RX-405 which was a desktop, so I imagine the 400 is as well.)

As for the keyboard and mouse ports.. I don’t know that I would bother. USB mouse and keyboards are quite cheap nowdays so I would suggest getting the USB card and then a mouse and keyboard to go along with it.

The alternative to that would be to buy a USB to PS/2 (your mouse/keyboard ports) adapter and plug that into your shiney new card. They tend to be pricey for what you get though.

What happened to destroy ALL of those ports?
