Should You Buy The Samsung Galaxy S8 When It Comes Out?

If you are up to date with everything technology, you will be aware of the fact that Samsung has a launchImage result for s8 event on the 29th March to unveil their new flagship phone: the Samsung Galaxy S8. With this, there has been a lot of anticipation surrounding it, partly due to rumours circlulating around the S8 but also due to what other tech companies have produced as flagship phones for 2017 already, such as LG with the impressive G6. However, as much as the S8 sounds like an amazing phone, is it a buyable phone? For example, the LG G6 looks a good phone, but I am sure it won’t sell as well as Apple’s, Samsung’s and even Google’s flaghship phones of 2017.

The problem that is becoming a problem with smartphones is that their predecessors are so good, it is questioning the consumer whether it is worth a hefty cost to upgrade the phone. Examples where this is the case include:

  • Apple iPhone 6 to 6S upgrade.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S6 to S7 upgrade.
  • To some extent, the LG G4 to G5 upgrade.

The problem is that, in the past, there has not been as many reasons to upgrade as consumers would have liked to have had. Yes, we can all agree that the internals are constantly updated. But, on a daily basis, the internal upgrades will not have as big an impact to the usability of the phone, from a consumer perspective, as the exterior hardware.

With this in mind, it is common to see the phones that do extra well when they are released are those that look different from their predecessor. Examples of this include:

  • iPhone 5s to iPhone 6.
  • LG G5 to G6
  • Potentially, the Samsung S7 to S8.

The rumours that are on the internet for the S8 already state it is going to have a different look to it from the S7, similar to the G6, which is brilliant news for consumers. A different looking phone already gives consumers more reasons to upgrade to it.

The big problem that many consumers face, though, is how expensive the upgrade will be. Already, we can imagine the price tag Samsung will put on the S8 is going to be very high. But, you could argue that this is always going to be the case with a tech company pushing the limits of what is possible from a smartphone.

To summarise the question asked at the start of the article, below is a quick bullet point list going through the main reasons to buy and not buy the S8:

  • + New screen and external appearance
  • – Will be very expensive
  • + Up to date Snapdragon processor and software to debut Samsung’s AI
  • – Will be very expensive (needs mentioning twice as it will be very expensive)!
  • + New camera and UI for Android
  • – Features previously on Galaxy phones, such as the micro SD slot and removable battery, could be removed with the S8
