Run into an error with a program and the first thing anybody will tell you is ‘Just uninstall and then reinstall it!’. Well, that’s all fine and dandy, if the program has an uninstaller. In the case of Windows Messenger, there isn’t one.
Luckily, you can remove Windows Messenger. Simply click Start->Run and type:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%INFmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Messenger should uninstall itself. Now, with XP sometimes you will receive an error with this. Just click OK through it, and all should be well.
