New computer no longer booting

Name: Thomas F

Hi! One fateful morning, I tried to boot up my new built computer which worked the previous night without problems. The computer turned on but nothing came up on my screen and there were no beeps. A friend thought that maybe my hard drive was bad, so i replaced it. I put it in today and the computer still has the same issue. Please help!!!

Thanks!

More often than not, especially with a new computer, it’s the RAM. Make sure that it is seated really well. The motherboard SHOULD beep at you if it doesn’t like the RAM it sees (or doesn’t see) but that’s not always the case. Take out the chips and reseat them really well.

If that doesn’t work, then remove one and see if it’ll boot with just that. If that doesn’t work, try the other.

Following that, if not booting still, it could be the power supply. It’s the peice of hardware that goes out the most on any of my client’s machines, and it tends to do it suddenly. If you’ve got a spare lying around then hook that up and see what happens. Ah, also, there’s a switch on the back that selects the voltage that the P/S uses. Make sure that is firmly selected to the correct voltage. I’ve run into a few cases where the switch was either on the wrong setting, or it was about half way which would make the computer work only when it felt like it. (More like when the switch was connecting correctly.)
