IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL – What temperature is critical?

what would you call “critical” temperature, or what tempreature would you start to worry about the CPU overheating

hiya guys!

thanks for your very helpful info about how to fix this problem. Just a quick question?
Following your advice:
When you restart the computer and go into BIOS to check CPU temperature – what would you call “critical” temperature, or what tempreature would you start to worry about the CPU overheating (just a guide – rule of thumb?) Oh, and I am from Australia, we go by degrees celcius, not Farenheight. 🙂 ok thanks guys again!

The temperature to start worrying depends on the processor model. Some have much higher tolerances than others. If you look on the processor manufacturers site you can usually find where your CPU’s threshold is.

Generally speaking, I don’t like my CPU to get above 120º (49º Celcius). That’s usually not too close to the CPU’s actual temperature tolerance, because that is generally around 158º (70º Celcius). Once again, the max temp depends on the model of the CPU but so long as your less than 55º C then all should be OK.

Just keep everything dust-free and make sure your heatsink is seated securely. Also, don’t put your computer in a sealed cabinet cause the air in there just gets hotter and hotter. My desk has a “closet” for my tower, but I removed the back panel to it so all the air just goes out the rear. I also will leave the front door cracked open a bit.
