My HP Pavilion 7925 Operating System is not found. Please help.

Well, in order to be more helpful it’d be nice to have some clarifying information, so feel free to post a reply on this page if you feel it necessary.

First and foremost, you will want to remove any USB drives, floppy disks, CD/DVD-ROMS, as well as any portable hard drives. It’s possible that your BIOS is looking to those drives first for the OS and when it doesn’t find it on your USB key it fails out instead of trying the next device.

Check your BIOS settings to make sure the main hard drive is still listed within the boot sequence.

If none of the above works, then more than likely your hard drive’s boot sector has somehow become corrupted. This can happen for any number of reasons including, but not limited to: Hard drive failure, electrical surge, virus/malware attack, or simple accidental formatting.

If it’s a failure of your hard drive (is the computer making any new noises that it wasn’t before, grinding perhaps?) then you’re pretty much hosed and will have to purchase a new one. Following the installation of the new drive, you’ll need to install your OS which should have come on a CD with your computer.

The first thing I would do is have someone that’s good with computers pull the case open and ensure that the hard drive is still connected properly. As crazy as it may seem, I’ve had instances where the connection was simply bad.

If the connection is fine and it still doesn’t work, then you’ll want to have the hard drive pulled and connected to another machine. This way you have a way of verifying independently of your current computer that the disk is accessible. If not, then it’s off to the computer store for you to buy a new HD.

If the drive turns out to be OK when connected to another computer, then try to have someone repair the boot sector, which can be done from the Windows CD if you boot it into repair mode.

And, finally, there’s always the good old fashioned OS reinstall. If the boot sector repair doesn’t work, then it’s time to reinstall your OS. Keep in mind that depending on the way you do this you may lose the data currently on the drive, so I’d once again have someone that’s experienced perform this task.
