I shut down the computer for a storm and it wouldn’t come back on. I connected another computer to the monitor and it didn’t work either. I connected the computer to a different monitor and it wouldn’t work. Any clues as to what might have happened?
I’m willing to bet that it’s the power supply that is shot. It’s THE most common component of a PC to die, and almost always exhibits the symptom that you’re describing.
One thing that you may try, and it probably won’t work, is to “bleed” the power from the P/S. It’s pretty easy to do. Simply unplug the power from the computer, and try to turn it on a few times. Then plug the computer back in and see if it fires up. It likely won’t, but that’s worked for me a few times. (The P/S still is bad, but this sometimes is like a band-aid over a gunshot wound)
There’s also the possibility that the main power switch on the back of the power supply simply got turned off. There should be a switch on the back of the computer next to where the cord goes. Make sure it’s turned to on.
