Windows ME Computer Freezes

Name: Jo-Lynn

I am not sure how to fix my computer.. Hell I am not even sure I know what is wrong with it. I know that my stepdad has run the restoration discs through it at least 10 times now.. I realize that it is an older computer..But its not that old.. I really don’t know what to do..I cant afford a new one.. Here is some info about my computer and its problems. My OS is Millennium. It has 127MB RAM and its HP. Not that, that helped much.. As far as my computers problems.. The computer freezes up and has to be either shut off or re-started, it runs like a turtle, and if you try to run the disc defrag or the scan disc they either wont run or repeatedly restart never going anywhere.OK well I think that about sums it up. If you have any suggestions, fixes, or ideas. I would love to hear them Thank you

The restoration disks may still be the way to go. However, you must make sure that the disks are formatting the computer when they run. This WILL make all of your old data go away – so be sure to back up anything you want to keep – but it should also clear up any issues that are migrating from one install to the next.

I would actually recommend a fresh install of Windows from an actual Windows ME cd. You should be able to find your Windows serial printed on a sticker on the side or back of your computer.

The main issue that you will run into with doing a manual install of Windows is finding drivers for all of the different components afterwards. Since you seem to have the disks already though, you may be able to use those for the driver info. (For your sound card, video card, etc)
