Cannot adjust the color from 16 bit

Name: Ernie Roe

I recently reformatted my hard drive. I use Windows ME. Everything works fine except I cannot adjust the color from 16 bit. I have all of my install disks but I cannot figure this one out. Do I need to install the printer first? When I try to slide the bar to adjust the color, it does not move. The setting is suppose to be at 256 or higher. Can you help?

Your printer drivers should have nothing to do with your display. The way to get your color depth working properly is to have the correct drivers installed.

What you’ll need to do is find out what kind of video card you have and go to the manufacturers website, then download the appropriate drivers from there.

nVidia and ATi are two really common graphics card companies (if the names GeForce or Radeon sound familiar). Getting drivers for either of those manu’s is a snap.

If your computer came with any extra CDs it may be worth looking around those to see if one is labeled “drivers” or something. One might even tell you outright that it’s for the video card.

The monitor driver may be to blame as well. Go to the display properties and click on advanced. If “Standard VGA Display” is shown, then change the driver it uses to “Plug and Play monitor”. Assuming the graphics card’s driver is in-line then you should now be able to change the color depth.
