Apple’s iPhone Smart Battery Case – My Opinion

So a lot has happened in terms of technology. With Christmas around the corner, many tech companies are releasing new products with the idea that they will be perfect gifts for people during the holiday season. For Apple, they feel this is the Apple iPhone Smart Battery Case. Here are my opinions of this battery extending case.

First things first: the name. Of course Apple had to mention that it is ‘Smart’. Generally, when it comes to marketing, there are certain words that evoke positive feelings and emotions from the English dictionary and ‘smart’ is one of these words.

But, the problem is if it is actually smart? There is a seriously strong debate to suggest that the Apple iPhone Smart Battery Case is not as ‘Smart’ as Apple makes it out to be, even if the case extends the talk hours by up to 25 hours. Here are the reasons why.

#1 The Design

If Apple was going to make case with an inbuilt battery pack, the first thing that should be on their mind is to keep it as slim as possible. So, the design they come up with is a lump out of the back of the iPhone – I cannot see the logic of this. It would have been a far better looking design if there was no lump but a general increased thickness where the whole back of the case was the battery pack, not just a proportion of it.

#2 The Price

Coming in at a whopping $99 or £79, this is the second major problem with the case. iPhone users can buy cases with near enough the same design and capabilities from a lot of manufacturers and retailers online for just a fraction of that price – is the Apple logo really worth the extra money? For some, it will be. But, for the majority, it just seems like a product that Apple has a huge profit margin on.

#3 Why Does It Exist!?

The third and biggest problem with this case is the fact it even exists. The fact that Apple even had to make a case to increase the battery life of their smartphones quite clearly suggests that they did not make the battery big enough.

In some way, it is good Apple have addressed a core issue with the iPhone. Instead of just saying ‘yes, the iPhone battery could be better, deal with it’, they have come up with a temporary solution to a pretty big problem.

So, when you look at it from this perspective, the case is just a ‘patch’ product until the next iteration of the iPhone comes out, seemingly predicted to be called the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. With this, you can bet your horses that the batteries will be bigger and the Smart case will disappear from the iPhone accessory line up….
