Apple has made the decision to produce the latest iPhone 14 in India going forward. Unfortunately, there are no official Apple stores in Pakistan. While India is making advances in technology, Pakistan is lagging behind. It remains uncertain when Pakistan will begin manufacturing iPhones for its local market and for export.
In Pakistan, the price of an iPhone 14 is 419,999 due to increased import duties, impacting not just phones but also graphics cards, laptops, and other electronics. If Pakistan were to manufacture iPhones locally, it could potentially lower prices for consumers.
Currently, Apple is producing a range of its advanced phones in India, such as the iPhone SE, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and now the iPhone 14. This month saw the launch of the latest iPhone series, featuring the iPhone 14 models with enhanced cameras, a satellite messaging feature for sending emergency texts, and improved sensors.
The iPhone 14 lineup includes four models: iPhone 14, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max. It is anticipated that soon, local consumers will have access to the Made-in-India iPhone 14. These iPhones will not only be available for the Indian market but also for export.
This expansion in production will pave the way for various Apple initiatives in India, including the App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru and collaborations with local organizations focusing on renewable energy training and community development.
With India becoming a manufacturing hub for Apple, there are expectations of a significant increase in revenue in the country, as reported in the quarter ending June 2022. Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned setting revenue records in the June quarter across developed and emerging markets, with strong double-digit growth seen in countries like Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia, and nearly double the revenue in India.
According to JP Morgan’s report on “Apple Supply Chain Relocation,” there are projections that Apple will relocate 5% of its iPhone production to India by late 2022, with a target of reaching 25% by 2025.
Currently, Pakistan imports iPhones mainly from China at high costs. While Samsung phone production has commenced in Pakistan, there may be potential for the government to engage with Apple in the future to facilitate iPhone production within Pakistan.
