I followed the procedure to skip the XP login page on my PC at home. Except when I selelcted Administrator as the default user I entered a password. Now my system boots to the login screen, defaults to administrator, including the default password and stops. It tells me to check user ID or domain name and reenter. It is a stand alone PC so there is no domain name that I know of (and nowhere to enter it anyway). I can’t get passed this window now no matter what I do. Can you help?
Reboot to safe mode. (Restart machine and press F8 a bunch of times before the Windows XP splash screen comes up)
Log in as your regular user account. You shouldn’t need to log in as the Administrator account because your reg. one is an admin anyway more than likely.
Do Start->Run Control Userpasswords2
Recheck Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.
Either leave that checked, click OK, and reboot -OR- select (highlight) your regular user account, uncheck the box again, and click OK.
If you still can’t get into your machine, then you may have to Reset your administrator password.
