4 Quick Tips to Give Your Blog a Boost

For those that have been blogging for quite a long while now, you would agree with me that it can somtimes feel like an iterative process where you are constanty tweaking things here and there to improve the results and sucess of your blog. This is true. However, you do not always have to keep tweaking things – after a while, your blog should find a rhythm and stick with it. The problem is if you feel your blog has not found that rhythm yet. For this reason, here are four super quick tips which should give any blog a boost.

  1. Wednesday lunctimes are the best time to post, tweet and share – After years of experimenting, I have found the best time to do any tweeting and sharing of posts, as well as posting the actual article itself, to be on a Wednesday every week at 11am-2pm.
    • With this, it is important to remeber who your demographic is. Check what country is viewing your website the most and post according to when it is 11am-2pm in that country. For example, although I live in the UK, the majority of my traffic comes from the US. Therefore, I change all my posting strategy to suit US times.
    • Another point to bring up is that this should take next to no time at all. Both Blogger and WordPress enable posts to be posted and schedules to a time that suits you.
  2. Use social media plugins on articles – The best way to get an article to go viral is to not rely on the fact people will reshare and retweet your tweet and share of the article but that others naturally share the article straight from the webpage. The best way to do this is to install some sort of social media plugin, which enables web users to tweet and share the article before or after reading the article – there are many different plugins out to choose from.
  3. Tell a story – Engagement is often overlooked by bloggers who are too interested in just telling the facts in an article. Yes, the core information is crucial to an article. However, if there was a choice to read an article written by a robot and one by a human telling the exact same information, I know the majority of you would choose to read the human article. This is because we like to engage with content.
    • For bloggers, a great way to increase engagement is through telling small stories and via adding personal touches throughout your article, such as experiences and opinions relating to what you are talking about.
  4. Make sure your sidebar is uncluttered – It is often too easy to feel as if your sidebar does not have enough widgets inside it, so you start adding widgets to ‘fill’ it out a bit. I have done this in the past and it really does not help performance but hinders it, since you are essentially adding junk to your website. Only keep the most useful widgets inside the sidebar.
