Is The Samsung Galaxy View Just A Tad Too Big?

With the build up to Christmas nearly in full swing now with Halloween gone, it is that time of year when new products, if they want to take advantage of the surge in sales from Christmas, start getting released. Samsung has just released one of their newest innovations in the Android tablet market being named the Samsung Galaxy View. Why it is called the Galaxy View? Well, it is quite a view you get from this tablet with a screen that measures 18 inches diagonally. Yes, that’s right. Your standard 15.4 inch laptop has a smaller screen than the Galaxy View. Heck, you’re 17″ inch super laptop for gaming has a smaller screen than this Samsung tablet! For this reason, it brings the point forward whether Samsung’s new ultra large tablet is just a tad big or is there actually a market for it?

I remember when Samsung came out with the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 a few years ago. When people first saw it, the reviews were mixed because many thought it was just too big to be portable. For example, the weight meant you could never hold it in one hand, it had the same footprint as some laptops and was generally just a big tablet.

However, after owning and using a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 for a year or so now, I can honestly say that there is a market for such a tablet. The Note Pro is a much more enjoyable experience when it comes to watching videos, internet browsing and so on because there is more screen to view. The best way I can describe it is going between a 10 inch tablet to a 7 inch. You become so use to the 10 inch that when you use a 7 inch it just feels miles too small and tiny. I couldn’t go back to a 10 inch tablet now after having a 12.2 inch tablet.

My point is that there might be a market for an 18 inch tablet. At the end of the day, it is going to be heavy and big but Samsung has built a stand into the device so it can be viewed from different angles when the stand is used. Although it only has a 1080p screen, the point Samsung might be trying to go with in this tablet is that it is not all about pixel density as it seems like – maybe viewing pleasure comes with screen size more than pixel density?

I certainly agree with that – the proof comes from my experience with the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. My only concern is that, although the Samsung Galaxy View is still portable, is it portable enough to replace a tablet? That question will soon be answered by the many reviews the product gets as it is released…
