3 Areas Smartphones Can Still Improve

e6tapi.jpg

Throughout the year, more and more smartphones are released to the public with all new features that are designed to excite the web user and beat off the competition’s smartphones. I admit, I love some of the phones that are coming out nowadays. Smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge just makes you think that smartphones in 5 years time are going to be absolutely amazing. However, I still feel there are areas which tech companies have ignored over the years when it comes to the upgrades to their phones. For this reason, here are some of the areas I feel should not be neglected by smartphone manufacturers but, instead, be put to the top of the list as a priority. Here are three areas smartphones can (and potentially should) improve.

#1 Battery

I am sure everyone will agree with me on this. It seems that the norm is a day of use for smartphones. However, if you are forced to use your phone for, let’s say, a sat nav for an hour, that can decrease your life by 30% and it just will not last the full day after that!

It is welcoming seeing the new quick charging for the modern phones like the Samsung S6 range. However, I feel the quick charging is more of a temporarily solution to a much larger problem: I don’t want to have to charge my phone throughout the day in 10 minute intervals either!

Smartphones are at the stage where thinnest is not as important any more. So, if a manufacturer decided to make the phone a millimetre or so thicker for a larger battery, to last 1.5-2 days, I am sure it will be a best hit.

Part of the problem, I believe, are the new 4K screens. The problem is that many people cannot tell the difference between a 4K screen and 1080p screen. Therefore, why not keep to 1080p? The battery life will improve massively if manufacturers resorted back to 1080p screens.

#2 Larger Screen, Smaller Phone

I am a big fan of the LG smartphone because they truly utilise the phone’s dimensions with it’s screen. The LG G2 was pretty much entirely a front screen – it had a huge screen compared to the iPhone 6 but with the same dimensions. For this reason, what is stopping the screen getting larger but the dimensions of phones staying the same? LG proves it is possible.

#3 Removable Batteries, Micro SD Card Slot

I’ll just say it now that we will never see any of the above with the Apple range. However, for the Android range, we should. It is a big factor for many consumers whether they have removable batteries and micro SD card slots. Batteries fade over time and with smartphone cameras increasing in mega pixels, more storage is needed (in the 100s of gigabytes). Every phone nowadays in the Android sector should have removable batteries and a micro SD slot.
