Samsung Introduces a Bendable TV

One of the biggest disadvantages of curved TVs is the fact that they can’t be straightened. This can become an inconvenience if you don’t want to watch a particular movie on a curved screen. However, Samsung has come up with an ingenious solution to this problem. The company has introduced a TV that can literally bend. If you wish to watch TV on a curved screen, you can do so. But if you want to watch something on a straight screen, you can change the viewing mode using the remote. Let’s look at what Samsung has promised to deliver with their bendable TV:

Initially the bendable TV was introduced as a concept. However, the company decided to bring this concept to life. Samsung has revealed its plans to launch the TV this year. The bending action of the TV is controlled by the remote itself. The screen springs into action at the press of a button. The bendable TV is equipped with small servo motors which bend it into a curved shape. If you want to watch a regular HDTV, all you need to do is press the button again.

The second press straightens the large TV into a regular flat screen. Considering the various types of screen available on the market now, it doesn’t seem technologically impossible to bend a TV like this. However, the technology that Samsung has used is truly remarkable. Bendable TVs are mostly equipped with OLEDs which is because they can easily be bent. But Samsung’s bendable TV features a regular LCD. Bending an LCD is tricky as the frame and backlights have to bend along with it.

This bendable TV is a promising technological advancement. However, the specifications and the 4K picture quality do come at a steep price. The state of the art technology used in this TV will surely cost you an arm and a leg, but it is worth it.
