The most visible change is the inclusion of touch pad, on top of the controller. The purpose of this pad is to recognize finger swipes and presses, like smartphones do. Apart from this, no major changes have been made appearance-wise.
Moreover, the tops of the analogue controls are concave, with a recessed centre and angled ridges at the sides, so as to increase the grip and overall comfort of the gamer.
Another notable change is that the height of the analogue sticks has been lowered to make the transition between controls more convenient.

The primary reason of implementing those changes was to take the overall gaming experience to a whole new level, something you wouldn’t be surprised by, if you know Sony well.
In addition, the changes were prompted by the abundant feedback received from customers. Therefore, it won’t be wrong to say that Sony has built a controller which most gamers precisely need.
