Apple has dedicated several teams to work on different artificial intelligence projects in small groups
According to reports, Apple is pouring millions of dollars every day into its AI development and training programs. Multiple teams are working on different AI models in small groups.
One of these teams is Apple’s ‘conversational AI’ unit, also known as the “Foundational Models”, which consists of 16 highly trained engineers, including former Google employees. It is led by John Giannandrea, who joined Apple in 2018 to improve the performance of ‘Siri’, the popular digital voice assistant in iOS devices.
Additionally, Apple reportedly has other teams working on AI, including a Visual Intelligence unit focused on image generation models like Midjourney or Dall-E2, as well as a group researching and developing ‘multimodal AI’ that can recognize and produce images and videos.
These AI models being trained by Apple have various potential use cases and are aligned with Apple products. For instance, an AI chatbot being developed at Apple will be used for customer interactions on AppleCare.
