Recently I wirelessly updated my Verizon Blackberry Tour 9630 to the new OS 5.0.0.591 version that was officially released. The update itself took a considerable amount of time; the setup text suggested that it may take a couple of hours to complete which at the time I figured was a rather extreme estimation. As it turned out, it was not. My update took approximately two and a half hours to finish.
Description of the Blackberry OS 5.0.0.591 update reboot issue:
During this time it rebooted several times, and once done the phone worked perfectly. All of my previously installed applications and settings were still in effect, and all of the new features of Blackberry OS 5.0.0.591 were functioning.
The issue started when the Tour was attempting to connect via Bluetooth to my Windows 7 desktop computer. I had setup the Bluetooth relationship to the Tour via the Blackberry Desktop Manager previous to the the BB OS 5 update. Every time the phone was within range of the Windows 7 computer it attempted to connect, and after this the phone would reboot.
How to fix the Blackberry OS 5.0.0.591 reboot problem:
In order to fix the issue all that is required is to remove the pairing between the Blackberry and the computer. You can either take the phone out of range of the computer and remove the partnership, or remove the pairing via the Bluetooth settings on the computer. I’ve not yet tested re-pairing the devices to see if a new partnership will work.
Note: I’ve no idea if this issue exists with Windows XP or Vista. I have only verified with with Windows 7.
