How to Create a Restore Point

If you’re wanting to make a snapshot of your current settings in Windows XP or ME, then this is the place to look. Beginning in Windows Millennium Microsoft came out with a nifty feature called ‘System Restore‘. It’s basically just a backup of the registry among other things, but it can work miracles if your settings get messed up.

How to create a restore point: In Windows XP click Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore. In WinME it is basically the same. Once that’s done a screen like this should appear:

SystemRestoreStartScreen

Select “Create a restore point” (duh) and click Next. Type whatever you want into the description box, and press Create. The next screen should say something like

New restore point:
Wednesday, September 29, 2004
11:28:19 PM Whateveryounamedithere.

You could train a monkey to do it.
