4 Areas Pokémon Go Can Improve In

Let’s be quite frank. The online world has been hit by what can only be described as a tsunami or, in other words, Pokémon GoWith Pokémon Go only released at the start of July, we have already seen Nintendo’s shares double in value and talks that Apple alone will pocket billions from the in apps purchases Pokémon Go offers users. It has been a complete success that has continued the name ‘Pokémon’ into the 21st century. However, although it is a great app that millions are walking around aimlessly to use, it is still by no means a perfect app. Therefore, without further ado, here are some of the main areas Pokémon Go can still improve in to make the app that bit better.

#1 Change Pokémon Style Battles at Gyms

I’ll be honest, when I reached level 5 and walked into my first gym to battle an opponent, I was getting quite excited…up until the point when I realised that ‘battles’ in Pokémon Go consisted of no strategy and frantic clicking on the screen. Considering that Pokémon battles had strategy in them where you can heal your Pokémon, use different attacks and so on, I cannot understand why Nintendo have not used such a battle format in Pokémon Go? Hopefully, this will be changed.

#2 Challenge Friends to Battle Online

What would have been great in Pokémon Go if you could have the ability to ‘call up’ your friends (possible Facebook friends?) to battle them then and there. Some people’s locations mean they are miles away from the nearest gym, potentially hundreds of miles away. Therefore, going there consistently to battle others is going to be hard. There needs to be an option for these people and others to have the possibility of battling others just like Clash of Clans and other apps does.

#3 Fishing!

When it came to catching Pokémon in the old fashion days that were water-based, you had to actually get your rod out and start fishing! Although Pokémon Go locates water-based Pokémon near rivers and the sea, it still does not feature actual fishing. I mean, wouldn’t it be great to use augmented reality to fish an actual river or sea and see on your screen your rod getting a tug and out coming a water based Pokémon?

#4 Android Wear/Apple iPhone Notifications

The worst bits about Pokémon Go is that the fact that:

  • It completely drains your smartphone’s battery from having it on.
  • You have to keep the app open to register steps to crack open eggs.

What would be great is if the app can run as a background app and when new Pokémon are near your location, your phone vibrates or your smartwatch buzzes to let you know there is a Pokémon in the nearby area. Yes, I know the Pokémon Go Plus does exactly this. However, have you seen it and do you think those above the age of 13 will actually wear it?

Ultimately, Pokémon Go has been a hit and the base for an amazing app are there. You should not be surprised to see updates coming monthly to fix bugs, glitches and improve the overall experience of this app.
