Last year, Microsoft released Windows 11 version 23H2 to the public, featuring the introduction of Windows Copilot, a feature powered by AI, and the Moments Update.
The rollout of the feature update was somewhat unremarkable as Microsoft did not clearly distinguish it from the subsequent feature drop.
Despite this, Copilot did not bring significant new features compared to its web or application counterparts.
In February, Microsoft announced that Windows 11 version 23H2 would be automatically installed on devices nearing or at the end of their servicing period. Most users inclined towards the new version have likely already updated to it, focusing primarily on bringing older Windows 11 versions up to date.
Microsoft recently highlighted that consumer Windows 11 version 22H2 and Windows 11 version 21H2 for organizations will no longer be supported starting October.
Broad Availability
Microsoft has now made Windows 11 version 23H2 widely available for all users with compatible devices.
It is worth noting that on certain devices, users may still need to manually check for updates to receive this feature update.
Microsoft also mentioned that non-managed Windows 11 Home and Pro devices will be automatically upgraded to the new version as they approach the end of their servicing period.
In summary:
- Users running Windows 11 version 22H2 or an older version on an unmanaged device will be automatically migrated to Windows 11 version 23H2 in the upcoming weeks or months.
- If you are waiting for Windows 11 version 23H2 and have not yet received it, you may see it available when checking for updates.
- For those managing a Windows 11 version 21H2 device, expect an automatic update in the coming months.
Although Microsoft has not reported any current issues, some devices may not receive the update prompt even after manually checking for updates.
In such instances, alternative methods may be considered to update to the latest Windows 11 version, such as creating new installation media using Rufus, especially for devices that do not meet the official system requirements of Windows 11.
