Twitter recently made public that an unidentified individual posted some of its source code on Github without permission. In response to this leak, Twitter’s CEO, Elon Musk, is taking legal steps against the responsible parties by demanding that Github discloses information about the user who leaked the code.

After the source code was leaked, Github promptly removed it within a few hours. However, Twitter is not satisfied with just the removal of the code; they are pressuring Github for details about the user behind the leak.

In a recent legal filing, Twitter urged the platform owned by Microsoft to reveal the identity of the person or persons who uploaded Twitter’s source code on Github without authorization.

The individual who leaked Twitter’s source code on Github used the username ‘FreeSpeechEnthusiast’, which seemed to be a deliberate reference to Twitter’s CEO Elon Musk, known for his advocacy of free speech.

Elon Musk, who recently downsized Twitter’s workforce by more than 50%, believes there is a significant risk of sabotage from current or former Twitter employees. He also thinks that the left-wing is critical of Twitter’s choice to unblock the accounts of various left-wing figures, notably former US President Donald Trump.

During the legal proceedings, Twitter’s assistant general counsel, Julian Moore, contended that their request to uncover the user’s identity is supported by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
