Following Twitch’s agreement with the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), streamers are still facing limitations on using music legally in their streams. In response, Twitch has notified content creators via email about a new system in the works to facilitate the reporting of unauthorized music by publishers and rights holders. This process is unique as it prioritizes issuing warnings before imposing penalties. Essentially, when a rights holder flags a stream, Twitch will issue a warning and remove clips containing unauthorized music. Severe violations, like rebroadcasting entire shows, may lead to direct penalties depending on the user’s history of infractions.
Furthermore, Twitch will take down videos in cases of disputes between creators. Billboard noted that Twitch and the NMPA have set a timeframe to address music-related matters on the platform in the future. While the implementation of the new reporting process will require some time, Twitch plans to provide updates to creators in the coming weeks.
