Telenor Pakistan wrapped up 2024 with a total of 43.2 million subscriptions and reported service revenues of NOK 3.81 billion, marking an 8.8% growth compared to the previous year. Over this period, the company’s EBITDA saw a significant increase of 25.2%.
According to its parent company, Telenor, the service revenue rose by 12%, attributed to a robust monetization strategy. Furthermore, the average revenue per user (ARPU) grew by 13%, which helped mitigate the impact of a 2.7% decline in the subscription base.
In December 2023, Telenor reached an agreement to hand over its operations in Pakistan to PTCL, contingent on obtaining regulatory approvals. The completion of this transaction is expected in the first half of 2025.
The acquisition entails the transfer of 100% of Telenor Pakistan’s telecom operations to PTCL. However, the process has encountered delays primarily due to regulatory clearances and associated terms. While there were early indications that the transaction could stretch into early 2025, recent updates suggest an adjusted schedule.
If PTCL successfully acquires Telenor, it could significantly reshape the competitive landscape of Pakistan’s telecom industry. An approved acquisition would merge PTCL’s strong infrastructure with Telenor’s vast customer base and mobile expertise, potentially enhancing service delivery for consumers.
Ultimately, the impact of this deal on the market will be determined by how effectively the integration is managed and whether the necessary regulatory conditions are met in a timely fashion.
