The Punjab government is teaming up with the higher education department to launch a project focusing on ‘Chip Designing Tools’ in universities.
According to a report in Dawn, an MoU has been signed by the education department and partnering entities.
During a meeting at the Chief Minister’s office, Higher Education Minister Raja Yasir Humayun briefed Chief Minister Usman Bazdar about the project and its implications.
Mr. Humayun highlighted that the project is expected to not only transform the local IT sector but also create numerous job opportunities.
Emphasizing the importance of modern higher education accessibility, the Chief Minister mentioned the plan to establish universities in each district to facilitate students in pursuing higher education close to their homes.
Furthermore, Mr. Buzdar stressed that the establishment of an advanced engineering and technology university in Sialkot would not only benefit the local industry but also provide opportunities for local youth to pursue higher studies.
The minister informed the Chief Minister about the setup of 75 new colleges in Punjab, along with the upgrade of 590 colleges to associate degree institutions and 201 others to a BS four-year level. He also mentioned plans to establish 86 more colleges in the province.
Celebrating the inclusion of 21 Punjab universities in international and Asian rankings, the Chief Minister expressed pride in the education-friendly policies of the government.
He highlighted the allocation of scholarships worth Rs834 million through the Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Scholarship scheme for deserving students and mentioned a substantial increase in funds allocated to the higher education department compared to the previous year.
