In an effort to alleviate the financial burden caused by increasing electricity prices, the Punjab government has introduced an innovative initiative, the “CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme.”
This program, which aims to supply solar energy systems to 100,000 consumers over the next year, was formally announced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. During the launch, she underscored the scheme’s ability to provide lasting relief to consumers dealing with steep electricity bills.
“The free solar panel scheme aims to provide permanent relief to the public from high electricity costs,” she stated. She also pointed out the positive outcomes from previous governmental measures, noting that 73 million consumers in Punjab have already received a subsidy of Rs 14 per unit for their electricity usage.
This initiative highlights the Punjab government’s persistent dedication to improving living conditions and ensuring that state resources are allocated effectively for the benefit of the community.
The Provincial Secretary for Energy offered an in-depth explanation, specifying that the solar systems would be installed in both urban and rural areas, thus providing solar energy solutions for households across the province.
Eligibility and Installation Guidelines
This initiative is anticipated to lower carbon emissions by 57,000 tons annually, while simultaneously reducing the financial pressure on the federal government by decreasing electricity subsidies.
Punjab’s focus on promoting sustainable energy is evident in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, which has earmarked specific funds for the deployment of solar energy systems.
Application Process
Residents interested in participating in this scheme can submit their applications through the official online platform at cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk or by sending their information via SMS to 8800 before January 5, 2025.
