When Rajesh looks back on his childhood, he brings to life those memories of a modest upbringing. He shares, “I was born in Bathinda, a small town in Punjab, India. My parents were teachers, and we lived paycheck to paycheck. The absence of luxuries didn’t deter me; instead, I found solace in my studies.”
Education held a deeper significance for him; it morphed into a safe space where he could cultivate his dreams and aspirations. When times got tough, it became the driving force that gave his life meaning and direction.
From a young age, his academic achievements stood out. “I was always at the top of my class and earned scholarships throughout my education. In 10th grade, I ranked among the top 15 students in the entire state of Punjab, India.” That solid academic foundation became the launchpad for his remarkable career.
Following high school, Rajesh was pumped to head to Thapar University in Patiala, India to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering. However, the jump into the workforce wasn’t exactly a smooth ride. He landed this promising job offer during campus placements, only to have the company pull a disappearing act.
“I got a job in an IT services company on campus. But that company never gave me a joining date.” Instead of wallowing in disappointment, he turned things around by taking a position as an engineer at a white cement factory. Sure, it was a major shift from his original dreams, but sometimes life has other plans.
After a year at the cement factory, a new opportunity awaited him in Mumbai, India as a consultant at the Associated Cement Company. That marked a significant turning point in his career, one that set the stage for even greater achievements.
Rajesh uncovered his true calling in business analysis, a field that would prove to be a transformative force in his professional life. Earning his MBA from the Nirma Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India opened the doors, and he landed a role at Cognizant Technology as a business analyst in the insurance sector.
Rajesh felt completely in his element, tackling intricate problems and using his analytical thinking along with communication skills to navigate the fast-paced industry.
“Being flexible and open to change can help individuals thrive in fast-paced environments, making them valuable in any industry. I have this skill set which has helped me in quickly delivering the projects in a high demand environment.” he adds, illustrating how vital that flexibility has become.
Then came a pivotal moment in his career: joining Accenture. Working on significant projects for U.S. insurance companies, he recalls, “In 2014, I had the opportunity to move to the U.S. to lead a project with Chubb Insurance.”
This move opened a whole new world for Rajesh, filled with opportunities he had previously only dreamed about. By 2019, he had achieved another milestone when IBM recruited him.
But he didn’t stop there. Earning advanced certifications like Associate in Insurance (AINS) and Associate in Claims (AIC) further fueled his journey. “I’ve always been passionate about process improvements in the insurance industry.” These certifications deepened his knowledge and allowed him to contribute more strategically to the projects he worked on.
What truly stands out about Rajesh? His relentless pursuit of knowledge. “I believe in continuous learning. This year, I completed a six-month course on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from the University of Berkeley.”
Sitting back and enjoying his success? That’s just not in his playbook. He recently added a PMP (Project Management Professional) certification to his already impressive credentials. It’s clear that this philosophy drives everything he does.
Rajesh’s ambitions extend beyond personal achievements. He envisions a future where he becomes a leader in his field, stating, “In ten years, I see myself as a leader, making meaningful contributions to the community.”
Despite his successes, Rajesh holds tight to his roots. Rajesh likes to refer to his parents as his personal heroes, saying they were the ones who really taught him the value of education and the importance of hard work. Even during tough financial times, they made sure he received a good education. Their unwavering support and belief in education continue to motivate him every day.
