Passengers Stranded Due to Issues with Pakistan Railways App

Pakistan Railways has rolled out its winter timetable; however, the Live Tracking App, which allows passengers to monitor train schedules, has not yet been updated to incorporate these changes.

This oversight has led to a discrepancy of 59 minutes between the schedule shown on the app and actual train timings, causing inconvenience for many ticket-holding passengers. The Live Tracking system, launched in 2019, was designed for users to track train movements on mobile devices and receive updates on arrivals and delays.

Unfortunately, the absence of updates after the implementation of the winter schedule has made it challenging for travelers to plan their trips effectively. Railway officials have indicated that the task of updating the app lies with the headquarters; however, the delay in resolving this matter has frustrated users.

Developed with the support of Google Maps, the Live Tracking App cost Rs 7 million, alongside Rs 70 million expenditure for 350 trackers fitted to 325 railway locomotives. The app is programmed to alert users 15 minutes ahead of a train’s arrival, in addition to providing information on any delays.

Travelers depend on the Live Tracking App to stay informed about train arrivals and departures. Yet, the 59-minute disparity between the app’s displayed times and the actual schedule has rendered it difficult for numerous passengers to board their trains, despite having valid tickets.
