The government of Pakistan is poised to establish 10,000 charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) across the country by 2030. The unveiling of a second EV policy is expected by the end of November.
This ambitious effort was revealed by Rana Tanveer Hussain, the Federal Minister for Industries and Production, during an expo featuring electric bike models.
In his speech, Minister Hussain highlighted the government’s commitment to curbing carbon emissions and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. He emphasized that this initiative could position Pakistan as a regional center for electric mobility.
Hussain shared that 31 companies are actively looking into investment opportunities in Pakistan’s EV market, with two of these companies having already obtained licenses to manufacture electric vehicles domestically.
Furthermore, the Minister praised the Punjab government’s initiatives to promote electric two- and three-wheelers by providing financial incentives to encourage potential buyers.
He also announced that the government has earmarked Rs4 billion to acquire 100 electric bikes, which will be given to high-achieving students as a reward for their academic excellence.
