Pakistani Passport Ranks Lowest in Global Passport Index

The most recent Henley Passport Index indicates that Pakistan ranks among the lowest globally in terms of passport strength, lagging behind conflict-affected regions like Palestine. A mix of stringent visa requirements, security challenges, and inadequate diplomatic relationships has led to Pakistan’s score of 102, which greatly hampers the international mobility of its citizens.

Holders of a Pakistani passport can travel to 33 countries visa-free, with options that include Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq. Over the past five years, the Pakistani passport has consistently been ranked lower than those from countries such as Liberia, Somalia, Sudan, Haiti, and Chad.

In stark contrast, those with a Singaporean passport can visit 195 countries without a visa out of a total of 227, while other countries tied for second place, including Japan, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, have access to 192 destinations without requiring a visa.

The Henley Passport Index, which utilizes data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) alongside research by Henley & Partners, underscores the importance of diplomatic relations in determining travel freedoms. The newly released Global Mobility Report 2024 highlights widening disparities in travel access across different regions.
