MX Linux 19.2 Now Available with KDE Plasma Desktop

The MX Linux team recently launched MX Linux 19.2, the latest update in the ‘Patito Feo’ series. Responding to user requests, they introduced the beta version of MX Linux 19.2 featuring the KDE Plasma desktop last month.

Now, they have announced the official release of MX Linux 19.2 KDE, a Debian-based distribution that supports KDE Plasma 5.14.5. This version is 64-bit only and includes Advanced Hardware Support (AHS).

Similar to the Xfce edition, MX-19.2 KDE is built on Debian buster with the Debian 5.6 kernel, MX tools, antiX-live-usb-system, and snapshot technology.

The system comes with various software packages such as GIMP 2.10.12, MESA 20.0.7 (AHS), MX AHS firmware package, Firefox 79, VLC 3.0.11, Clementine 1.3.1, Thunderbird 68.11, and LibreOffice 6.1.5.

There are some known issues with the release. For example, you cannot adjust system clock settings via the KDE system settings without systemd. However, you can use the MX Date or Time application for this purpose.

How to Get MX Linux 19.2 KDE?

As the KDE edition ISO image is new, there is no direct upgrade path from previous versions or MX-19.2. If you are using the testing version of MX-19.2 KDE, you can upgrade to the stable release through regular updates.

For a fresh installation, download the MX-19.2 with KDE Plasma ISO from SourceForge, mirror sites, or Torrent files. If you need help with the installation, refer to the official user manual.
