Windows 11, version 24H2 has only recently been launched, yet it already has a significant list of issues, rivaling the length of a polonaise at a German carnival.
Gamers have faced various challenges since its release. The initial version of Windows 11 24H2 is not without its faults, particularly impacting the game Asphalt 8 and causing difficulties with Easy Anti-Cheat applications.
Moreover, some Ubisoft games have also been affected. Microsoft has confirmed that Auto HDR is facing its own set of challenges as well.
Key Information: Windows gamers utilizing Auto HDR will not receive the upgrade prompt for Windows 11, version 24H2 via Windows Update.
Additionally, Microsoft recommends that users refrain from upgrading to the latest version of Windows 11 through alternative methods, such as the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool.
The Auto HDR Issue
Microsoft describes the problem as follows: “You might find that the game colors are inaccurate in certain display settings. Some games may also become unresponsive.”
In simpler terms, games may freeze or perhaps crash while using Windows 11, version 24H2 if Auto HDR is enabled.
This issue particularly impacts devices that have already upgraded to the latest version. If you are experiencing color discrepancies or freezing in games, the Auto HDR feature on your device might be responsible.
For those already on Windows 11, version 24H2, Microsoft has offered a workaround. It unsurprisingly suggests disabling Auto HDR either for all games or for individual titles.
Here’s how to do it:
- Open the Start menu.
- Click on Settings.
- Go to System > Display within the Settings app.
- Select Graphics on the page that opens.
- Disable Auto HDR on this page.
This will turn off the feature for all applications and games on the Windows 11 PC.
Alternatively, you can manage Auto HDR on a per-application or game basis. This can be done on the same page under “Custom settings for applications,” allowing for tailored adjustments for specific titles.
Microsoft has stated that it is diligently working on a fix. In the interim, gamers who have not yet upgraded remain on a prior version of the operating system.
