Microsoft Edge Enhances History Section to Manage Sent Pages

Microsoft has introduced a new feature in Edge that enables users to view all pages they have sent to other devices. This feature, known as the send feature, allows Edge users to seamlessly share webpages across different devices where Edge is being used.

To utilize this feature in Edge, users simply need to right-click on an active tab within the browser and select “send tab to your devices” from the context menu. A list of all user devices associated with their Microsoft account will then appear, and users can choose the specific device they want to send the tab to.

This feature works best when syncing is disabled or when the open tabs syncing option is turned off. Once a tab is sent, it will automatically open on the designated device the next time Edge is launched.

Sent Pages in History

Currently, there is no indication on the source Edge installation that a page has been sent to another device. However, Microsoft is actively working on integrating a new browsing history page in Microsoft Edge that will include a list of sent pages.

At present, access to this feature appears to be limited, even in development versions like Microsoft Edge Canary. Users can access the history page by navigating to Menu > History > Menu (three dots) > Open the history page using the Ctrl-H shortcut, or by entering edge://history directly in the browser’s address bar.

The new “Sent pages” option will be displayed in the sidebar on the History page, allowing users to view a chronological list of all pages that have been sent. It includes details such as page titles and the date the page was sent.

Tabs that have been sent from other devices can be found under “Tabs from other devices” on the history page. This section will also include tabs sent from all other devices running Microsoft Edge, not just to a specific device.

While tabs sent from other devices will appear in the History flyout menu, this functionality is yet to be fully integrated into Microsoft Edge and will be introduced in a future update.

Currently, the Sent Tab feature in Microsoft Edge serves specific use cases and is restricted to sending tabs from one signed-in Edge instance to another. It remains unclear if Microsoft plans to extend this feature to other programs or apps, or if it will remain exclusive to Edge.

Sending tabs is a convenient way to share a page across Edge instances, with the tab automatically opening on the receiving device upon browser launch. However, this feature may cater to a niche audience, as many users may prefer using the built-in Share functionality in Microsoft Edge for sharing webpages with other apps.
