MediaCreationTool Helps Download Windows ISO Images from Microsoft Servers

MediaCreationTool.bat is a script designed for Windows that enables users to easily download Windows ISO images directly from Microsoft servers. The program has been recently updated to include support for downloading Windows 11 ISO images, as well as offering a stand-alone script to toggle Windows 11 compatibility checks during setup.

The tool was initially reviewed back in March 2021 when it added support for Microsoft’s Windows 10 version 21H1.

The latest version now allows users to download Windows 11 ISO images from Microsoft. It is expected that Microsoft will update its Media Creation Tool to include Windows 11 on the day of its release, likely set for October 5, 2021. This tool is particularly handy as it provides the functionality to copy the operating system to a USB drive or create an ISO image for burning on a DVD.

MediaCreationTool is an open-source script that not only supports downloading Windows 11 but also various versions of Windows 10, including the 21H2 edition.

To use the script, simply run it with elevated privileges to start downloading the desired Windows ISO image from Microsoft.

Downloading the script may seem a bit complex, but here are the steps to follow:

  1. Visit the project’s GitHub website.
  2. Ensure your screen size is sufficient and click on the Download Zip button to save the entire archive locally.
  3. Extract the ZIP file after downloading.
  4. Right-click on the MediaCreationTool.bat script file and choose Run as administrator from the options.

MediaCreationTool will display all available versions for download. Choose a version, such as Windows 11, Windows 10 version 21H2, or any other listed option.

Upon selection, several choices will appear on the following page. The options for Create ISO and Create USB are self-explanatory: the former saves the file as an ISO image, while the latter copies it to a USB Flash drive.

The extracted archive also contains a file that can be helpful to some users. The command file Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update.cmd allows users to bypass the TPM check during Windows 11 setup.

Handy Tip: Microsoft has re-released its PC Health Check tool to help determine a device’s compatibility with Windows 11.

Closing Thoughts

MediaCreationTool.bat offers more options compared to Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool, including the ability to download older Windows 10 versions and address compatibility issues through the command file.
