Apple is reportedly preparing to incorporate Google’s Gemini AI models into its Apple Intelligence platform, as suggested by clues found in the iOS 18.4 beta code. This move implies that users may soon benefit from Google’s AI capabilities alongside the features that Apple Intelligence already offers.

This effort aligns with Apple’s overarching strategy to integrate diverse AI models throughout its ecosystem. During the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, discussed intentions to collaborate with various AI providers, including Google. While OpenAI’s ChatGPT was the first model unveiled, Federighi emphasized the aim to expand partnerships in order to enhance the user experience.

Integrating Gemini into Apple Intelligence could provide users with advanced AI functions such as text generation, summarization, and editing, along with improved natural language processing abilities. Currently, these features are primarily associated with ChatGPT, but the addition of Gemini could offer an even broader range of AI tools.

Although an official launch date remains unconfirmed, the presence of Gemini-related code in the iOS 18.4 beta suggests that Apple is actively testing this integration. Users and developers should stay attentive for official communications from Apple regarding the rollout of Gemini support in Apple Intelligence.

In addition to welcoming Gemini into its ecosystem, Apple has been enhancing its AI capabilities through various initiatives. The company has partnered with Broadcom to develop custom AI chips, aiming to reduce dependence on outside suppliers while boosting performance across its devices. This collaboration highlights Apple’s commitment to advancing its hardware for complex AI applications.

Moreover, Apple has expanded the reach of Apple Intelligence by integrating it into new devices, such as the Vision Pro headset. This integration enables features like the Create Memory Movie function found in the Photos app, allowing users to create personalized “memory movies” using AI. These developments reflect Apple’s dedication to providing a cohesive and enriched user experience throughout its ecosystem via continuous AI integration.
