How Going Solar is Helping U.S. School Districts Save Millions | Mashable

School districts in a number of states are reaping the benefits of switching to solar power – including saving millions in utilities, selling some of the energy back to the grid, and using the extra money in their budget to invest in better pay for teachers.

Generation180, an NGO focused on accelerating the transition to clean energy, estimates that if all schools in the U.S. switched to solar power, it would reduce carbon emissions equal to closing 18 coal-fired power plants. However, by the end of 2020, they’ve registered only 7332 schools with solar power, approximately 5.5% of all schools around the country.
