Google Meet Introduces Echo Alert Feature

If you’ve ever experienced an annoying echo during a Google Meet call, you’re not alone. Google has identified this common issue and has now announced a new feature that will alert users when they are causing an echo while speaking. This means that instead of relying on other participants to notify you about the echo, Google Meet will notify you directly through a brief pop-up message.

Google has also introduced tools to help eliminate echoes, although certain configurations of desktop speakers and microphones may still lead to audio feedback. The echo warning is displayed as a red dot on the Meet interface, along with a notification and a text alert.

By clicking on the notification, Google Meet provides simple steps to address the echo, such as muting your microphone, adjusting speaker volume, or using headphones.

This new echo alert feature will be gradually rolled out to G Suite Basic and Business customers over a period of up to 15 days.
