In a significant move to promote electric vehicles (EVs) and encourage sustainable transportation, the federal government has unveiled its plan to provide free electric bikes to the top 120 performers at the Federal Board.
Rana Tanveer Hussain, the federal minister in charge of industries and production, chaired the fourth session focusing on the Electric Vehicles Policy, during which this announcement was made. The meeting also discussed the progress on setting up 40 EV charging stations along major national highways and motorways.
During the session, the minister highlighted the necessity of establishing electric vehicle charging points at every petrol station throughout the capital. Furthermore, the government intends to make available 39,000 electric bikes and 1,900 electric rickshaws to the public via affordable loan options, thus improving access for a wider audience.
Rana Tanveer Hussain mentioned that the entire process would be executed digitally to guarantee transparency. This initiative is in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s aspiration to develop Islamabad as a model city. The Federal Minister also stated that the Electric Vehicles Policy would be revealed soon.
These initiatives are designed to encourage eco-friendly transportation across the country and support sustainable urban growth.
