Elon Musk emphasizes the importance of privacy for Twitter DMs

Elon Musk, in a recent meeting with Twitter employees at the company’s headquarters in San Francisco, unveiled plans to introduce encrypted direct messages (DMs) along with voice and video chat options on the platform.

During the presentation titled ‘Twitter 2.0’, Musk discussed the addition of these new features to enhance the microblogging platform’s functionality.

Expressing his commitment to user privacy, Musk underscored the significance of ensuring maximum privacy for Twitter users through the implementation of encrypted messaging features.

Musk stated, “We want to enable users to communicate without worrying about their privacy or the risk of a data breach that could expose their DMs. We want users to feel confident that their conversations are secure and not vulnerable to unauthorized access.”

The CEO further emphasized his strong stance on privacy by remarking that even under extreme circumstances, such as a threat, no one at Twitter should have access to read user DMs.

“It should be the case that I can’t look at anyone’s DMs if somebody has put a gun to my head,” Musk reiterated.

Industry experts view Musk’s decision to introduce encrypted messaging as a positive step towards enhancing user privacy and security on the platform. With these upcoming features, Twitter aims to prevent incidents where private conversations were leaked online in the past.
