Careem, the leading app in the Middle East and Pakistan, has named Shafaq Waqar as the new People Engagement Director in Pakistan.
Shafaq aims to bolster Careem’s culture, nurture talent, and drive the organization towards greater success. Her focus is on developing talent management strategies and attracting skilled individuals from all over the country to support Careem’s growth as it aspires to be the go-to Super App in the region.
Prior to joining Careem, Shafaq held various HR roles at Nestlé for nine years, gaining expertise in performance management, talent development, and employee engagement. She brings a wealth of experience from her time at esteemed companies like Pansian Group and i2C Pakistan.
In her new role as People Engagement Director, Shafaq shared her excitement, saying: “I am excited to start this journey and assist Careem in finding like-minded individuals to advance the mission of simplifying and enhancing people’s lives.”
Given Careem’s transition to remote work, Shafaq’s role will be vital in shaping mindsets and fostering Pakistan’s tech talent pool. With 437 colleagues working remotely in Pakistan, Careem plans to expand its offerings beyond ride-hailing to include delivery services and mobile payment options.
