Earning a distinction in Engineering gave Abdul Basit Khanzada the lift-off for an international career. Still, his fascination with mechanics and a supportive family built his passion and commitment to excellence. He has gone on to work on some dream projects and travel the world in various engineering roles. Yet, he wants to keep going, bringing his passion and skills to new roles.
Abdul quickly became interested in mechanics and engineering from a young age, and his family supported him in studying engineering. He acquired resilience, hard work, patience, integrity, and intense focus, three skills that have shaped his engineering career today and earned him awards from school and in his professional career.
Abdul began his professional journey at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, finishing with a Distinction in mechanical engineering in 2020. He gained skills in engineering, manufacturing, and construction.
While at the university, Abdul, envisaging his engineering career path, earned certifications in occupational health, safety, and quality control, gaining steps toward international standards.
Taking up a shift manager role at Tharparkar Sugar Mills launched Abdul into administrative and core engineering competence in plant operations, equipment maintenance, and team control. The role allowed him to transition into an environmental and safety engineer at Gulf Construction.
He worked in construction safety, policy compliance, and site safety inspection there. Abdul also honed his work accident investigation and hazard analysis skills and trained other safety officers.
2023 brought Abdul’s biggest career move yet -becoming an independent inspector. Stepping out of an “assured” role underlies his life’s philosophy: growth comes through calculated risks.
He brings 5+ years of experience in workplace health and safety, quality assurance (QA), and quality control (QC) to clients, serving as lead and team member for several international projects since 2023.
Abdul’s next phase saw him move to Italy to take up independent vessel and systems inspection for many companies.
His work experience includes Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) Inspection for PLC Units for Dipetro Group, a cooling tower inspection and engine performance shipment for ADNOC, and several gas vessel inspections for China Chengda Engineering Co.
He also worked on HPCL VRMP RUF Unit inspection for L&T Energy Hydrocarbon and performed pre-inspection and final inspection for ADNOC and USGC II Petrochemicals Project. Indian oil refinery, SIEMENS, VEGA, DOOSAN Korea, ATLAS COP CO, and JGC corporation are other companies he worked with.
Abdul inspected and standardized the electric systems for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Nigeria and deployed his QA/QC knowledge in the successful inspections for ADNOC.
From Italy to Germany and the U.S.A. (remotely), Abdul has led over thirty local and international projects.
Having gained extensive field experience, his work has not only benefited clients but also stretched his abilities and made him a better engineer.
Ever the learner, Abdul has not neglected personal development; he has achieved some proficiency in Italian and English, in addition to his native Urdu.
Abdul’s goal is to work in advanced engineering roles that make the world a better place. His expertise in Maintenance Engineering, Health & Safety Management, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and Quality Assurance & Control (QA/QC) makes him the perfect man for the job.
Abdul wants to own a US-based company and use his knowledge as a project manager to bring world-class projects to life.
He also hopes to become a researcher/consultant for international projects and use his skills to promote managerial and operational efficiency. He wants to keep learning and deploying that knowledge to improve life through engineering.
He hopes his career and life can serve as an example for younger people pursuing a career in any field, especially engineering. Abdul’s success over several technical and life challenges instilled a deep sense of self-belief and the value of pursuing growth and excellence.
For Abdul, no excuse replaces hard work and quality delivery on every job, and that is why he remains committed to professional networking, keeping up with industry trends and technologies, safety trends, regulatory compliance, and advanced NDT techniques.
